Gear clearance debugging for Metso HP300 crusher

ONA received customer's feedback that a gear purchased separately from another supplier did not fit properly with the pinion after installation for their Metso plant crusher Nordberg HP300, resulting in excessive noise. The supplier was unable to provide any warranty or technical guidance. Our engineers took the available gear which produced by ourselves and arrived at the customer's site overnight to provide on-site working of cone crusher parts guidance and commissioning.

The enormous noise was caused by excessive gear clearance. Adjusting gear clearance ensures smooth and accurate gear transmission, improving the gear's load capacity and service life. During gear transmission, appropriate clearance ensures proper meshing and operation, preventing mechanical failures caused by overtightening or undertightening. Adjusting gear clearance reduces noise and vibration, improves transmission smoothness, and reduces gear wear and stress concentration, extending its service life.

What causes excessive gear clearance?

1. Production was based on survey drawings, not the original drawings.

2. Material differences; the original material was I7CRNIMO6.

3. Hardness did not meet the standard; the drawings required a hardness of HRC 58-62.

4. Processing discrepancies; the correct production method should be carburizing and quenching.

5. Quality inspection does not meet standards or is not performed. All ONA gears undergo dimensional, hardness, and meshing tests before shipment, and meshing test traces are retained.
