If you have ever searched for a replacement pump for your cone crusher suitable for Metso HP series, you may have noticed conflicting names: gear pump, hydraulic pump, and lube oil pump. Along with HP crusher wear parts, getting the right pump is essential for keeping your machine running. Which one do you actually need? Getting it wrong means ordering the wrong part and extending downtime. This short guide explains what each pump does, why they are different, and how to choose the right one.
What Are the Two Pump SystemsThe HP series (multi‑cylinder cone crusher) has two independent fluid circuits. The lubrication gear pump circulates oil to the eccentric bushing, main shaft bearings, and gear set. The hydraulic pump supplies pressure to the clamping cylinders, tramp release cylinders, and the hydraulic motor that rotates the bowl for setting adjustment. Both are gear‑type pumps, but they serve completely different functions. Why the Difference MattersOrdering the wrong pump will not work. The lubrication pump runs continuously whenever the crusher operates; it provides relatively low pressure but high flow for cooling and lubrication. The hydraulic pump operates only when adjustment or tramp release is needed; it delivers higher pressure for cylinder actuation. Their mounting flanges, drive couplings, pressure ratings, and part numbers are different. Installing a hydraulic pump into the lubrication circuit will cause immediate failure – and vice versa.
How to Identify the Right Pump for Your HP Crusher1. Check the symptoms and locate the pump
Low oil pressure, high temperature or a noisy pump indicates a lubrication circuit problem, which means you need a gear pump (lube pump) usually mounted on the oil tank or crusher base frame and driven by an electric motor. Slow CSS adjustment, inability to hold clamping pressure or tramp release failure indicates a hydraulic circuit problem, which means you need a hydraulic pump, typically mounted on a separate hydraulic power unit.
2. Use the correct part numberWhether you need a lubrication pump or a hydraulic pump, for HP series or GP series, or any other brand, just provide your original part number. ONA will supply the exact replacement pump you need. No confusion, no wrong parts. The table below lists the part numbers of some best-selling lubrication and hydraulic pumps.
