  • What is the pitman of the jaw crusher?
    Jun 26, 2025
What is the pitman? ——The "meshing gear" of the crusher   In the fields of mining, construction, metallurgy, etc., the crusher is the core equipment for material crushing. It crushes large pieces of material into a size more suitable for processing, and the pitman is the most critical moving part of the jaw crusher. It cooperates with the fixed jaw, and through periodic reciprocating motion, it squeezes, impacts and bends the material entering the crushing chamber until the material is crushed into the required particle size.   Simply put, the pitman is like the "chin" of the crusher, and its performance directly determines the crushing efficiency, energy consumption and equipment life.   The structure of the pitman   The jaw plate of the pitman is usually cast from high manganese steel such as 18%Mn2%C, 13%Mn2%Cr, etc., and the surface is covered with a jaw plate to resist high-intensity impact and friction. The pitman assembly is made of high-quality steel castings and is driven by two large cast steel or cast iron flywheels. In addition, the forged heavy eccentric shaft and four large ball bearings of the same specifications make the Nordberg C series jaw crusher have extraordinary reliability.   The core role of the pitman: more than "crushing"   1. Determine the crushing efficiency: the swing frequency, stroke and jaw plate tooth shape of the pitman directly affect the material crushing speed and particle size uniformity;   2. Affect the life of the equipment: the selection of wear-resistant materials and structural design determine the wear resistance of the pitman under high-frequency impact;   3. Balance energy consumption and cost: efficient pitman design can reduce useless work loss and reduce long-term operation and maintenance costs.   Common problems and maintenance points of pitman   1. Common faults   - Jaw plate wear: when the material hardness is high or the feed is uneven, the jaw plate tooth tip is easy to wear, resulting in a decrease in crushing efficiency;   - Bearing damage: caused by poor bearing lubrication, the bearing lubricant needs to be replaced in time according to the cycle;   - pitman fracture: long-term overload operation or material defects may cause the pitman frame to fracture. 2. Maintenance recommendations Pre-startup inspection: 1. Check the tension of the V-belt. 2. Check the wear of the liner. If the wear limit is reached, it must be replaced immediately. 2. Check the jaw plate bolts 3. Check the tightening of the hexagonal bolt. 4. Check whether the protective rubber plate of the toggle plate is positioned and in good condition. 5. Check the tie rod nut In-operation inspection: 1. The bearing temperature is within the normal range 2. The tie rod spring is normal Daily inspection: 1. Lubricate once every 40 working hours). The required amount of grease is shown in Section 5.3.3 of the manual. 2. Lubricate the discharge port adjustment device and check the condition of its rubber cover (discharge port mechanical adjustment). 3. Check the wear of the cheek plate and replace it if necessary. 4. Check the centering, straightness and cracks of the toggle plate. 5. Check the toggle seat and rubber seal. Clean the surface of the toggle seat if necessary. 6. Check the tightening of the frame fixing bolts. 7. Check the condition of the flywheel. 8. Check the wear of the rubber shock-absorbing pad 9. Check the tightening of the frame fixing bolts on the side plate. Guide to purchasing pitman We work with technical drawings for any non-standard products. • What are those crushers called?
    Jul 10, 2025
To extract metals from ore mined in mines, the ore first needs to be crushed into fine particles. This crushing process is generally divided into three stages—coarse crushing, medium crushing, and fine crushing—based on the reduction in ore particle size from large to small, with different types of crushers used in each stage.   1. Jaw Crusher: generally used as the first step of coarse crushing   The jaw crusher is definitely a "veteran" among crushers. It looks a bit like a crocodile opening its big mouth and crushes materials by the opening and closing of two jaw plates. It mainly deals with ores with high hardness, such as granite, iron ore, concrete blocks, etc.   The working principle is simple: the fixed jaw plate and the movable jaw plate form a V-shaped crushing cavity. After the material enters, the movable jaw plate continuously approaches the fixed jaw plate, and the material is "crushed" by extrusion and bending force until the fragments are small enough to fall from the discharge port. Its advantages are strong processing capacity, simple and durable structure, and it is often used as a coarse crushing equipment to lay the foundation for subsequent crushing links.   2. Cone Crusher: A precision crusher   If the jaw crusher is "rough processing", then the cone crusher is "fine processing". Its core components are a moving cone and a fixed cone, forming an annular crushing cavity between them, which is shaped like a cone.   During operation, the moving cone rotates eccentrically around the axis of the fixed cone. The material is crushed into finer particles in the crushing cavity through extrusion, impact and grinding. The cone crusher has the advantages of high crushing efficiency and uniform product particle size. It is suitable for medium and fine crushing of high-hardness ores, such as gold ore and copper ore, and is widely used in mine mining.   3. Impact Crusher: Flexible crusher   The impact crusher relies on the high-speed rotating rotor to drive the plate hammer to violently impact the materials entering the crushing cavity. After being crushed, the materials will hit the impact plate for further crushing until they reach the required particle size.   It is characterized by a large crushing ratio (it can directly crush large materials into small particles), regular product shape, and can not only crush hard materials, but also easily handle brittle materials such as concrete blocks and bricks. Therefore, it is very popular in the fields of construction waste recycling and highway construction.   4. VSI: Crusher in the sand-making field   The VSI is specially designed for sand making. Its working principle is to use a high-speed rotating impeller to accelerate the material to a high speed, and then make the material collide violently with each other and between the material and the lining plate, so as to be crushed into sand grains.   This crushing method can produce sand with excellent particle shape, making up for the shortage of natural sand resources. In scenarios such as construction sand and concrete mixing stations, VSI are indispensable equipment.   Conclusion   From coarse crushing to fine crushing, from hard rock to waste materials, each type of crusher has its own place. The choice of crusher mainly depends on the hardness of the material, particle size requirements and production scenarios. Understanding their names and characteristics can not only help us better understand the industrial production process, but also feel the wisdom of human beings using mechanical power to transform the world. After all, turning "big guys" into "small guys" is also an important step in resource recycling.

  • Which is better cone crusher or jaw crusher?
    Aug 07, 2025
In industries like mining and building materials, crushers are crucial equipment. Jaw crushers and cone crushers, both commonly used crushing equipment, each offer unique advantages and applications. Many people struggle to choose between them. Below, we analyze their pros and cons for your reference.   Differences in Working Principles   The working principle of a jaw crusher is quite unique. Its crushing chamber consists of a fixed jaw plate and a movable jaw plate. The eccentric motion of the eccentric shaft drives the movable jaw plate in cyclical motion against the fixed jaw plate. When the jaw plates move closer together, the squeezing force crushes the material; when the movable jaw plates move further apart, the crushed material slides down and out. This simulation is ideal for coarse crushing of large, bulky materials and is typically used as the first step in ore crushing.     The working principle of a cone crusher is different. A motor drives a drive shaft, which in turn drives the main shaft, which rotates the eccentric assembly. The head assembly, driven by the eccentric assembly, oscillates back and forth, sometimes approaching and sometimes moving away from the bowl assembly. During this process, the material is subjected to repeated compression and impact, and only qualified material falls out of the crushing chamber. This continuous crushing method makes it excellent for both secondary and tertiary crushing, and is typically used as a secondary process in ore crushing. Performance Comparison   Jaw Crusher High Reduction Ratio: Capable of crushing large bulk materials to medium or smaller particle sizes in a single operation, offering excellent coarse crushing capabilities. Simple Structure: Easy maintenance and low operating costs. Large Feed Size: Can handle larger feed materials Cone Crusher High Production Efficiency: Deep crushing chamber allows for high throughput per unit time, resulting in relatively high output. High Finished Product Size: The finished product has a more uniform particle size and slightly better shaping, making it particularly suitable for applications requiring high finished product size.     Jaw crushers and cone crushers have their own advantages and disadvantages. There is no absolute good or bad. The key is to choose the crusher that suits you best based on comprehensive considerations of your own production needs, material properties, budget and other factors to achieve the best economic benefits and production efficiency in production.

  • What is Pitman in jaw crusher?
    Aug 14, 2025
Understanding Pitman in Jaw Crushers   If you’re involved in mining, construction, or aggregate processing, you’ve likely encountered jaw crushers—the workhorses of primary crushing. These machines break down large rocks into smaller, manageable pieces, but have you ever wondered about the key components that make this possible? One critical part you shouldn’t overlook is the pitman.    What Exactly is a Pitman?   In simple terms, the pitman is a heavy-duty, oscillating arm that sits at the heart of a jaw crusher, It is equipped with a movable jaw plate, and bearings and bearing housing are installed inside. It connects the crusher’s motor-driven eccentric shaft to the moving jaw, acting as the bridge between power input and the crushing action. Think of it as the “muscle” that translates rotational energy into the back-and-forth motion needed to crush material.  Typically made from Cast steel/alloy steel, the pitman is built to withstand extreme forces—after all, it’s responsible for moving the swing jaw against the fixed jaw to compress and break rocks, which can exert tons of pressure. Its robust design ensures it can handle the wear and tear of continuous operation.
